We are seeking an experienced Corporate Counsel with leasing expertise to join our in-house legal team. In this role, you will help develop and improve the legal function and support on leasing and property matters, while also supporting a broader range of commercial legal work in a purpose-driven, fast-paced environment.
About the opportunity
As a Corporate Counsel - Leasing Specialist, the role will involve:
- Review, negotiation, and completion of leasing documents across our national property portfolio, including:
- Retail leases, agreements for lease, variations, renewals, surrenders, and licences to occupy, as well as,
- Commercial leases for office, warehouse, and distribution centres
- Partnering with Property Administration, Development, Leasing, and Construction teams to provide strategic legal guidance on:
- Site acquisition and divestment
- Lease structuring, tenure planning, and risk allocation
- Landlord and tenant negotiations and disputes
- Managing and improving leasing templates and workflows to increase efficiency and compliance
- Assisting with broader commercial contracts including procurement, supply, and licensing agreements
- Supporting the Legal team's risk and governance activities, including training, policy development, and contract management
- Collaborating with external legal providers as needed on complex or high-value transactions
- Collaborating with internal teams and regulatory bodies to ensure quality excellence
Who are we looking for?
The successful candidate will possess the following key skills and experience.
- 7+ years’ post-admission legal experience, with a strong focus on retail and commercial leasing
- Experience in either in-house legal teams or top/mid-tier property law practices
- Sound knowledge of leasing legislation and retail tenancy codes across multiple jurisdictions
- Excellent lease drafting and negotiation skills
- Sound commercial acumen and stakeholder relationship skills
- Admitted to practice in Australia with a current unrestricted practising certificate
